Since 2009, marine archaeologists of the AMLA („Arbeitsgruppe für maritime und limnische Archäologie“) in collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH=Instituto National de Antropologia e Historia) have been examining flooded cave systems and cenotes (collapsed dolines) in the northern part of the Mexican peninsula of Yucatan. The objective of this singular cooperation is the detection, investigation and preservation of archaeological finds and findings of various time periods within the branched cave systems of Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
